The differences between manganese monoxide (MnO) and manganese dioxide (MnO ₂) in raw materials, production processes, and application fields:

1, Comparison of raw materials

1. Manganese monoxide

Main source: Using pyroxene ore (mainly composed of MnO ₂) as raw material, 3 is prepared by reduction roasting process.

Other raw materials: Electrolytic manganese metal sheets are oxidized at high temperatures to produce high-purity MnO2.

2. Manganese dioxide

Natural source: Direct mining of pyroxene (MnO ₂) or rhodochrosite (MnCO3), followed by beneficiation and processing purification.

Synthetic raw materials: manganese sulfate solution (electrolytic method), manganese salt solution (wet oxidation), etc.

2, Comparison of production processes

1. Manganese monoxide

Reduction roasting method:

Manganese ore and coal powder are mixed in proportion and roasted at 800 ℃ for 4 hours to produce MnO3.

High purity preparation process:

After the electrolytic manganese flakes are crushed, they are calcined in CO ₂ and H ₂ atmospheres, and then cooled and ground to obtain high-purity MnO2.

2. Manganese dioxide

Electrolysis method:

Electrolysis of manganese sulfate solution results in the precipitation of MnO ₂ crystals (such as electrolytic manganese dioxide EMD) at the anode.

Wet synthesis:

Oxidation method: Manganese salt solution is oxidized with chlorine or oxygen to generate MnO ₂ 5.

Precipitation method: Manganese salt reacts with alkaline solution to form hydroxide precipitate, which is calcined to obtain MnO ₂ 5.

Natural mineral processing: Soft manganese ore is directly purified through steps such as crushing, acid leaching, and impurity removal.

3, Comparison of application fields

1. Manganese monoxide

Industrial catalysis: used as a catalyst for the synthesis of pentanol and as a drying agent for ceramic glazes.

Agriculture and Feed: As a trace element fertilizer and animal feed additive.

Material preparation: Production of manganese iron alloy, magnetic materials, and battery raw materials.

2. Manganese dioxide

Battery manufacturing:

Alkaline battery positive electrode material improves energy density and cycle life by

Active component 57 for lithium batteries and zinc manganese batteries.

Environmental Protection and Chemical Industry:

Exhaust gas treatment catalyst (such as automobile exhaust purification)

Oxidants are used in non-ferrous metallurgy, uranium extraction, and organic synthesis.

Material processing:

Glass decolorizing agent, ceramic coloring agent, and rubber reinforcing agent .

Water treatment agents (adsorbing iron and manganese ions) and explosion-proof pyrotechnic materials
